Vietnam is the easternmost country on the Indochina Peninsula. It is the 15th most populous country in the world with an estimated 94.6 million inhabitants as of 2016. Vietnam shares its land borders with China to the north, and Laos and Cambodia to the west. It shares its maritime borders with Thailand through the Gulf of Thailand, and the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia through the South China Sea. The capital city of Vietnam is Hanoi, while its most populous city is Ho Chi Minh City.
Vietnam is known for its natural beauty and amazing tourist destinations. Aside from those magnificent tourist spots, it is also visited by a number of foreign tourists because of its delicacies. One of those is the most popular delicacies nowadays is a bowl of rice with roasted lizards on top. They say that it was not good to laugh about other country’s cultures and traditions, but this rice bowl had completely grossed out a lot of netizens.
There are farms in Vietnam which specifically breed house lizards because of the popularity of this Vietnam dish. On these farms, house lizards are grown until they reached their appropriate sizes. After that, they are roasted inside an oven before the suppliers deliver it to the market for consumption. A lot of Filipino netizens could not help it but share their honest opinion about the rice bowl full of roasted lizards.
Many of them could really take the fact that house lizards are being roasted and being eaten in Vietnam. But however and whatever we feel about it, different countries have their own different cultures and traditions that should be respected especially when you are going to visit their country.
It may not look good or taste good on us but it really has a big importance to Vietnamese people and we should all respect that.
