According to Manila Times, Philippine Statistics Office is now ready to implement the Republic Act 11055 or the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Act, the first batch will be soon released this September 2019. Six million Filipinos are estimated to receive the first batch of national IDs.
PSA Deputy Statistician Lourdes dela Cruz stated that the first batches of the said IDs will be for the indigents, persons with disability, and some of the government employees in some key areas of the country. She also added that Filipinos 5 years old and above were qualified to register. It is also a free registration.
This National ID will serve as a single identification system for every Filipino citizens and resident aliens and there will be no need to present more than one ID in government transactions and other private sectors that had been a burden to many Filipino people. PSA targets to issue 100 million national IDs by 2022.
